The Earth turns day by day,
In time and space we intersect,
The cards shuffle and a hand is dealt,
What patterns do I dare detect?
I wander in the endless noise,
And listen for the sounds with meaning,
Enraptured by a sirens call,
What patterns are my senses gleaning?
Soft gazes at the willow swaying,
My drunken mind, lines are blurring,
My body rocks to its gentle measure,
The patterns of my speech are slurring.
I draw the sweetness into my mouth,
The crystals on my tongue dissolving,
Unconsciously I wet my lips,
The patterns in my mind evolving.
I plunge my hands into the tepid pool,
Calm surface shocked to undulation
Abating ripples move beyond my sight,
Patterns are never without sensation.
At day’s end my memories fade,
So I drive into the setting sun,
I breathe yesterday’s air in deeply,
Before the patterns become undone.
And the planet orbits year by year,
Life all around may fall apart,
Though entropy collides with chaos,
Flawless patterns dwell in my heart.
That was very good. Right up my ally Swarn. I dug out an old favorite quote last week “I live on Earth at present, and I don’t know what I am. I know that I am not a category. I am not a thing—a noun. I seem to be a verb, an evolutionary process—an integral function of the universe.” Buckminster Fuller

Hi Jim,
Thank you for quoting Buckminster Fuller in relation to Swarn’s poem. The quote is a lovely and imaginative statement.
Hi Swarn,
Your poem is very enjoyable to read. There are indeed patterns in your poem itself, including those pertaining to the rhymes. I like that the first and last stanzas refer to the Earth and the planet.
In reciprocating and resonating with the spirit and patterns of your post, I would like to introduce you to mine at https://soundeagle.wordpress.com/2012/09/18/soundeagle-in-art-aphorism-and-paramusic/

Hello Sound Eagle. I apologize for the tardy reply. I am currently inundated by family visiting, but all is well. 🙂 Thank you for reading and following my blog as well as your kind words here. 🙂 By Wednesday things will be much more peaceful here and will have time to check out your blog. Until then! 🙂

I was going to comment, but then I remembered I’m not a bully anymore 😀

The fact that there wasn’t a comment you could make that didn’t amount to bullying is the worrying part. Lol

I love the last two verses.
It’s a heady brew this one Swarn, one the reader slips into line by line. I really enjoyed it. ‘Patterns are never without sensation’ – spot on. Well done that man, this is my favourite poem of yours up to now.

This is now my favorite Esme comment! Thank you so much. As always your praise of my literary skills means more to me than most.
It had been a long time since I had felt creative and yet the emotions expressed here were in waiting a long time, things felt muddled getting them out, so if it’s well-received I’ll take it as this was a “Well I just need to let it out” sort of poem where I wasn’t sure exactly where I was heading – as opposed to a stream of consciousness that seemed to flow more naturally. In less words, usually my theme is known beforehand, whereas in this case the theme manifested itself from perhaps emotions I thought I understood, but upon reading what I wrote I think I added more clarity than what was there before. That in itself was a pleasing experience.

“usually, my theme is known beforehand, whereas in this case the theme manifested itself from perhaps emotions I thought I understood, but upon reading what I wrote I think I added more clarity than what was there before.” – I think that’s the key. I’ve never written a poem on a theme I was aware of before I wrote it; lines come to me, sometimes one repeated, sometimes a couple, and they want to be written down, and others then add on like iron filings to a magnet. It’s only when the poem is written I know what I was talking about. Esme is rubbing off on you! Hahhahaha (no filth folks).

Well I use the word theme loosely or maybe what I should say is what I thought my poem was going to express ended up as something more. It’s hard to describe but you clearly understand what I mean. What would be nice is if I could understand how to repeat the process, but with a little more lucidness then I felt writing this one. I think perhaps that part is just getting back into doing more creative pieces. Having been off social media for about a month now has really helped take a weight off my mind. I hardly think about Trump at all now!
And yes no filth folks!

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Tsk. I find they appear at their best whilst cycling or floating in the bath. (still no filth folks)

If all this filthy talk is the reward for writing good poetry, that’s the incentive I need. Your versatility as a muse knows no bounds. 🙂
